Non representational

There are many components to consider in making a painting: size, surface, medium, colours, line, texture, composition, value from dark to light and, oh yes, subject. Sometimes I like to drop the subject and concentrate on the other aspects of art. Some people appreciate the results, some people feel cheated if the painting isn’t ‘of’ something. I liken non-representational paintings to classical music; if the music itself speaks to you, you won’t miss the lyrics.
